MHP Boulder is absolutely amazing. The staff is all top notch. My psychiatrist is smart & thorough. There are therapy groups every day. There's a small cafeteria, a computer lab for internet & printing and the best part of it all- it's CLEAN! Everything is new, I'm unsure when the building was built but it is up to date. It feels like private practice 100%. I guess you have to experience awful treatment to appreciate amazing treatment.
Based on my own experiences with MHP, I would never recommend their services to anyone. So far all they seem good for is prescribing meds, and less interested in applying actual therapeutic solutions to get to the root of the problem. It seems that my therapist never has any time to see, and the few times that I have seen her, she seems disinterested in what I'm saying, and has even gone to the extent of lotioning herself or leaving the session "to use the bathroom" and wasting 15 min of our time. As far as I know, it's safer to take meds when you are doing it in conjunction with therapy for the best results. Not to do so could leave MHP open to instances of negligence, which surprises me that they are willing to take that risk. If anything I would recommend Boulder Emotional Wellness over MHP any day. The therapists there actually care about your mental health and do not rely on medication in order to shut their clients up, for the sake of getting them out of their hair.
Kind, helpful people! I highly recommend this place.
NAMI Boulder County is a great resource for individuals and families trying to navigate the challenges of living with a mental illness. Their family to family class was incredibly helpful and I would highly recommend them as a place to reach out to if you need help.
This place deserves 10 stars. I'm so grateful.
I'm from Texas where mental healthcare is awful. Most private psychiatrists take cash only and the clinics for people on Medicaid/Medicare (like MHP Boulder) are absolutely horrible. I used the services in Houston, Tx & Austin, Tx -- both were filthy old buildings with waiting rooms full of chairs that were questionable to sit in. If you had a 8am appt to see your psychiatrist, expect to be there until at least 1-2pm. It was truly sad to be honest. I really needed help and they did not have the resources to help me.
They lock their doors during meetings, right in the middle of the day. So much for being patient centered. They have forgotten their mission statement.
They have a medical clinic w/ primary care physicians for regular medical issues not related to mental health, a dentist on site & tons of support staff available for housing, filling out applications & forms for Medicaid or food assistance.
